God is Concerned With Our Priorities
Imagine the following scenario. You are at home and suddenly the following 5 things happen simultaneously: your cell phone rings, a baby is crying, there’s a knock at the door, the microwave beeps indicating that what you were warming up is ready , and the water in the bathtub has been running and is about to overflow. With all of this happening at the same time, which one do you attend to first? Second? Third? That’s an example of priorities.
A priority is not just something that is important to you, but a priority is what is most important to you because it’s most valuable to you, for example: health, harmony, finances, family, faith, success, security, power, pleasure.
2…The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.’”
3Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4“Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?
Priorities are a concern to God because whenever we violate our priorities by downgrading what is most important, we also compromise what is most valuable and it affects everything else on the list. Wouldn’t you agree that some of our greatest regrets come from times when we compromised our values and violated our priorities?
Remember that time you stayed up too late with friends and you overslept the next day. It made you late to work/school, you missed the bus, or missed that special event that your son/daughter/spouse/other friend wanted you to attend. You felt horrible. Why? When we violate our priorities we compromise our values.
God is concerned with our priorities because when we violate priorities, we compromise values.
